Bongo Drum
Bongo drums are a set of drums that are attached. They
come in pairs, with one being larger than the other. The larger drum
is referred to as the male, while the smaller is the female.
Bongo drums are traditionally played with hands and fingers, rather
than using an instrument to strike the drum. When sitting, the larger
drum goes on the side of the body which is the dominant side. For example,
someone who is right-handed would have the larger drum on the right
side.
Bongo drums originated in Africa. The Atlantic slave trade brought
the bongos to the Americas. Bongo styles and sounds are found most often
in South American music like the salsa style.
